SimEx-Iwerks and Shedd Aquarium sought to elevate the immensely popular 4D Theater into the next generation, Immersion Theater.

The challenge

A SimEx-Iwerks solution

The project called for a complete redesign of the theater to deliver a more seamless, guest-focused journey, from arrival through the show itself. SimEx-Iwerks introduced new elements without losing its signature appeal.

A reconfiguration of the theater’s entry & exit points for streamlined flow & reduced congestion. The new layout supports a smoother transition between shows, boosting operational efficiency & guest satisfaction.

A new pre-show experience was developed to seamlessly bridge arrival & the main show. Designed as an introduction, it builds excitement & emotional connection, setting the tone for the immersive adventure that follows.

Every design choice aligns with Shedd’s physical building & its mission. From material selections to storytelling approach, the new Immersion Theater complements Shedd’s broader guest journey.
