For 20 years and counting, SimEx-Iwerks and BBC Studios have partnered to bring BBC Earth’s extraordinary natural history storytelling to life through immersive cinematic experiences for audiences around the world.
What began as adaptations inspired by the BBC natural history landmark series, Planet Earth, has grown into a long-term content partnership with 16 4D shows distributed across 60 locations and delivered to an estimated 15 million guests.
Together, BBC Earth and SimEx-Iwerks have found a creative harmony that ensures the preservation of the extraordinary storytelling, cinematography and mission behind some of the world's most acclaimed natural history content, while adapting it into engaging, entertaining experiences designed for audiences of all ages.

A SimEx-Iwerks solution
The partnership began with Planet Earth: Shallow Seas 4D Experience® in 2007, bringing unforgettable moments from BBC Earth's natural history content into the 4D theater environment.
The format proved particularly well suited to a variety of visitor attractions. Packaged into a 10–12-minute experience, powerful storytelling, spectacular cinematography and immersive effects create experiences that provide thrilling, educational entertainment to a broad audience, while supporting each institution's mission to foster curiosity and connection with the natural world.
Over the years, the collaboration has continued to evolve, drawing from acclaimed BBC Earth content including Sharks 4D Experience, Octopus 4D Experience, Tiny Giants 4D Experience, and many more! And now to add to our already extensive portfolio we have two new stunning shows based on the landmark series, “Mammals”, Wild Waters 4D and Wild Lands 4D.

The partnership continues in 2027 with two new 4D Experiences inspired by BBC's acclaimed Mammals series.
Wild Waters 4D takes audiences into the aquatic world, following mammals that have adapted to life in and around the planet's oceans and waterways.
Wild Lands 4D journeys across terrestrial environments, revealing the behaviors, challenges and remarkable adaptations that allow mammals to thrive across the world's diverse landscapes.
Both experiences transform remarkable moments from the series into engaging, entertaining shows designed to captivate audiences of all ages.
